Four-time MVP’s absurd Rd 1 perfection as Fever red-hot to shut down Lightning

Four-time reigning Super Netball player of the season Jhaniele Fowler is looking to kickstart the Fever’s 2022 title charge in their season opener against the Lightning.

Four-time Super Netball MVP Jhaniele Fowler was in absurd form to kickstart West Coast Fever’s season in a brilliant way against the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

The Jamaican shooter was 65-of-65 on one-point shots, with two misses on supershots, as she led her side to the highest score in Super Netball history, 82-62.

Fowler was close to her own record of 70 before the hosts faded in the final quarter.

Sasha Glasgow (12 goals in 45 minutes) assisted ably under new coach Dan Ryan.

“That was very important to boost our confidence on the road,” Fowler said.

The Lightning had a promising debut from 19-year-old Reilley Batcheldor, who hit a super shot with one of her first touches, but could do very little to stop the Fever.

West Coast faces Collingwood, Queensland and Melbourne on the road over the next three weeks.
