Super Netball top 30 revisited: Experts place Jamaican internationals in top spots
Jamaican internationals have been rated the best two players in Super Netball. One shoots goals and the other defends them, so who takes the number one slot?
Shamera Sterling has been voted News Corp’s Super Netball player of the season after pushing the Adelaide Thunderbirds to the verge of a maiden finals campaign.
The athletic defender had won a top-five spot after a panel of experts rated the top 30 players in the league in the pre-season.
But after votes were awarded for each of the 56 matches during the 14-round fixture, Sterling came out on top, narrowly beating Jamaican teammate Jhaniele Fowler for the win.
Sterling picked up two votes in the Thunderbirds’ loss to West Coast Fever in the final round, with the ‘keeper’s performance to limit the effect of Fowler in the goal circle, allowing her to leapfrog her Jamaican teammate to claim the honour 21 votes to 20.
Just four votes separated the top five, with Vixens co-captain Liz Watson (19) in third place, the Fever’s Courtney Bruce fourth (18) and Swifts co-captain Maddy Proud (17) in fifth.
Gretel Bueta, who topped the experts’ pre-season poll, was sixth with 14 votes.

The experts matched second and third place, with Fowler and Watson retaining their places from the pre-season experts poll through the season-long match votes.
