NRL: Cronulla Sharks poised to offer Matt Moylan a new two year deal
The off-contract playmaker list is set to lose its biggest name with the Sharks poised to double the deal previously offered to Matt Moylan.
Matt Moylan’s career at Cronulla looks set to continue with the Sharks on the verge of offering the playmaker a new two-year deal.
In a move that could take the biggest name on the uncontracted playmaker’s list off the open market, the Sharks are set to begin negotiating a new deal to keep Moylan at Cronulla.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Sharks are in the process of putting together a two-year offer in the hopes of locking down the 30-year old until the end 2024.
Originally looking to sign Moylan on a one-year deal, the Sharks will now extend the offer by a season following discussions with the playmaker’s manager.
It is understood Moylan was not interested in signing a one-year deal.

Helping the Sharks storm into the top four by forming a formidable scrum base partnership with Nico Hynes, Moylan has convinced Cronulla powerbrokers that he is worthy of a new two-year deal.
Earlier in the year, Fitzgibbon said he was undecided about the future of the former NSW five-eighth.
“He (Moylan) had a rough trot for four years,” Fitzgibbon said.
“He’s worked really hard to care for himself, his preparation. He just had such a good pre-season.
“He is off-contract but if he keeps performing the way he is, hopefully, that won’t be too long.”
Moylan last year took a $500,000 pay cut to sign a one year deal with the Sharks, which expires at the end of this season.
The former Panthers was previously on 850k a year but was forced to take a pay cut following an injury plagued stint with the Sharks.
The Broncos have also shown interest in Moylan and are expected to make a play if the Sharks fail to lock him down on the proposed deal.
Moylan’s re-signing would leave Anthony Milford as the biggest name on the off-contract playmakers list ahead of Jock Madden.
Other halves and five-eighths off contract include Jaeman Salmon, Billy Waters, Sean O’Sullivan and Brandon Wakeham.
