Coach Adam Simpson is ready to usher in a new era at West Coast after the Eagles’ disastrous 2022.

The Eagles only won two games last season, with a host of key players including Elliot Yeo and Nic Naitanui missing large chunks of the year.

After 2022’s injury woes, Simpson is glad to have his playing group in top condition ahead of the new season.

"Health and fitness is a priority and they are probably as fit as I have seen them so that is probably a big tick for us. Now it’s about overlaying some football."

One of Simpson’s biggest challenges this year is figuring out how to best use West Coast’s young players.

There is already hype about draftee Reuben Ginbey, while there is also anticipation about 2021 first-round draft pick Campbell Chesser, who missed all of 2022 with injury.

Simpson likened the situation to 2018, when a host of young players stepped up to play an important role in the Eagles’ flag win that season.

"We feel like some of that is going to repeat itself with the younger players and giving them opportunity but also deserving opportunity as well. That balance is important."
