Carlton is prepared to match its earliest-ever father-son bid for Harry Dean in the upcoming national draft, having told the star defensive prospect he will be a Blue.

The potential top-five prospect dominated at the national championships, rocketing up draft boards and earning league-wide interest.

But the son of Peter Dean will follow in his father’s footsteps and be at the club in 2026, with Carlton notifying the youngster of its intention to bring him to Ikon Park.

Clubs have until the October 31 list lodgement deadline, to officially nominate their father-son and academy products.

Carlton has also officially nominated midfielder Jack Ison, who should land at the club somewhere in the second or third round of the national draft.

The Blues have prepared for an early bid on its star prodigy Dean, currently holding picks No.9 and No.11 in the national draft.

Carlton would lose one of the two selections, and have the second pushed back into the teens, should a bid come within the first handful of selections as predicted.

West Coast is considering placing a bid on the son of Peter Dean with the No.2 selection of the draft.

He would be Carlton’s second-consecutive top-five selection following Jagga Smith last year, with the outstanding ball winner cruelled by a knee injury in his first pre-season.

Club officials have been impressed with Smith’s rehabilitation from the ruptured ACL, with the youngster set to start pre-season in November on a modified program before joining his teammates after Christmas.
