Geelong AFL news: Jake Kolodjashnij surgery, Cam Guthrie close to return
An experienced Geelong defender remains sidelined indefinitely after undergoing minor surgery while two young Cats are close to making their debuts alongside a veteran’s return.
Geelong fans could soon get a glimpse of two of its draftees from last year while a veteran is due to return after the bye.
The Cats have confirmed Jacob Molier (management) and Lenny Hofmann (back) are nearing club debuts and could feature in Round 15 of the VFL alongside veteran midfielder Cam Guthrie, who is due back from calf tightness.
Molier is a developing tall, standing at over 200cm, from South Australia and was taken with pick 52 in last year’s draft.
Geelong selected young defender Hofmann out of the Sandringham Dragons program in the Coates Talent League. He arrived at the Cattery despite being a member of St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy with the Saints not electing to match the bid at the draft.
Guthrie hasn’t featured at any level since experience calf tightness against the Gold Coast Suns about three weeks ago in the VFL.
Emerging midfielder Jhye Clark remains in concussion protocols and the club will continue to monitor him through the bye period.
The Round 17 VFL game against Collingwood looms as a possible return for Toby Conway on Saturday, July 19.
Experienced defender Jake Kolodjashnij underwent minor surgery last week to help his groin issues with no time frame established on his return.
Sam De Koning is still listed as three to four weeks away with his shoulder injury.
