Brandyn Grenfell and Danny Brewster make moves in the off-season

One of country footy’s most dominant forwards is on the move and it all comes down to a simple reason.

Brandyn Grenfell concedes Marong not moving to the Heathcote District league for next year was his motivation to move to a new club in the Central Murray league.

One of country footy’s leading goalkickers is on the move, signing with Nyah Nyah West United for 2024 after two years playing with the Panthers.

Grenfell kicked 100 goals in both years and was the leading goalkicker in Victorian football in 2022, kicking 154 goals.

The full forward was going to stay at Marong for next year, signing a deal earlier this season.

But it was dependent on the club moving competitions and not playing in the Loddon Valley league.

“I had a couple of years at Marong successfully and staying in the Loddon Valley didn’t interest me much,” Grenfell revealed.

“It was time for a change. (While) it’s still a contract as the Heathcote District league didn’t go ahead the contract didn’t exist.

“The club were really good about it, they understand completely and were appreciative of what we’ve done over the past few years.”

Grenfell did not rule out a return to the club he won two premierships with.

But he’s looking forward to playing with the Demons.

“I know the coach (of the Demons) really well,” he said.

“I have a few mates from Darwin who play in the team. I think it is a really good move for me.

“I want to keep winning flags and keep being successful.

“They are in a good shape to go all the way and go well.”

Grenfell revealed his role next year will change, he won’t just be playing in the forward line.

“I’ll be playing predominantly forward but I’ll be going in the ruck,” he said.

“I’m going to be a bit more in the ruck than at Marong.

“But I think my goalkicking will still be the priority.”

Grenfell isn’t the only forward to make a move with Danny Brewster moving to Moama in the Murray league after playing and coaching Undera last year in the Kyabram District league.

He’s kicked more than 800 goals in his career, including more than 130 for Natte Bealiba in 2022 in the Maryborough Castlemaine league.
