Corowa Rutherglen reveal how likely the team is to return

A country club believes it is on the right track to return to the field next year after sitting out the 2023 season.

Corowa Rutherglen is confident it is on track for a return to the Ovens and Murray league next year.

The Roos are attempting to make a comeback after going into recess in 2023 due to a lack of players and damage to their club rooms following floods last year.

In the last several months, the club’s board and football department have been focused on recruiting and improving the club’s facilities.

They’ve also been handed a salary cap increase over the normal amount by $25,000 and an increase in player points to 60 for the 2024 season.

“We as a club, and as a board and as a footy department feel we are on track to reform next year,” club president Graham Hosier said.

“I’m positive that we’ll get up and about. Council have stepped in and put some change rooms for the netball teams.

“The away change rooms will be for the home team and there will be some sort of option for the away team.

“And we’re just looking at the canteen now.”

Now the biggest challenge for the team is finding players.

The Kangaroos have made almost half a dozen announcements on social media, including the announcement of Ben Talarico as thirds and development coach.

The club has recruited Connor Leslie and Darcy Hope from Karingal.

Aaron Spencer and Joe Hansen have re-committed to pulling on the blue and white again after being forced to move away for last season.

“Trying to get players to any club is difficult,” Hosier said.

“Ours is more difficult as we didn’t play last year. Our guys are working hard and chatting to people.

“But we are comfortable where we are at.”

Hosier wouldn’t reveal how many players the club has signed but said it was more than what the Kangaroos have announced so far.
