Finley apologise after Mad Monday celebrations go wrong

A country footy club has been forced to apologise after two of its players wore offensive costumes during end of season celebrations.

The Finley Football Club has apologised and condemned the actions of two players after they wore offensive costumes at the club’s Mad Monday celebrations.

Photos were posted to one of the Murray League club’s social media accounts with the one player dressed as a suicide bomber and the other as North Korea leader Kim Jong Un.

The Cats said their actions were inappropriate.

“The Finley Football Netball wishes to express our sincerest apologies to the community for the abhorrent costumes that members of the Finley Football Club wore during the club’s post-season celebrations on September 23,” a statement from the club said.

“Once aware, the club immediately removed the social media post.

“The club acknowledges the costumes worn were offensive, not consistent with the club’s culture and values and ere extremely insensitive to the community standards and expectations of a club.

“There is no place for vilification or discrimination at our club.”

The Cats said the players involved will be forced to undertake a learning program.

“Those involved acknowledge the unacceptable nature of their actions and the repercussions this type of behaviour can have on the club, the league, their families and football more generally,” the club said.

“They will undertake the AFL’s Vilification and Discrimination Module to build their understanding and awareness of the ramifications of these types of actions.”
