The weekend’s SFL action threw up plenty of talking points.

Here’s what you need to know.

SORELL’S HUGE IMPROVEMENT

Sorell now sits third on the ladder after a thrilling 15-point win over Huonville Lions. “To get that win was fantastic for our group,” Eagles coach Simon Harris declared after the game, the club’s first win over the Lions in a decade. Skipper Adrian Butterworth continued his strong form of recent weeks earning a third straight mention in the best. Kobe Bennett, who played reserves only a fortnight ago, all but secured his place for coming weeks with three goals.

BEARMAN HAUNTS FORMER SIDE

Jye Bearman came back to haunt former side Claremont with eight goals in New Norfolk’s big win. It was Bearman’s best performance of the season after previously booting five in the win over Hobart in round 4. Captain Josh Farrow enjoyed his brilliant season with another mention in the best — his fifth of the year. Tyron Bailey, Rowan Thomason, Jordan Eiszele and Bailey Wheeler also impressed. Caleb Bennett was best for Claremont.

ARE CYGNET THE TEAM TO BEAT?

Cygnet remains the only undefeated team in the competition after an impressive 28-point win over Lindisfarne. The visitors kicked six goals to one in the final term to secure the four points. Will Polley continued his impressive season with a best on ground display while Jackson Gordon also won plaudits. Young gun Jackson Simpson caught the eye with his best performance of the season. Mitchell Lister, Elijah Cowen and Thomas Clark were also named in the best.

RECRUITS FIRE FOR DODGES FERRY

Tom Curran might have taken a bit of time to adjust to the SFL but he’s now firing. The former Lauderdale player has been named in the best in five straight games including the Sharks’ big win over Hobart on the weekend. In his first senior game of the season, Jamie Booth also put in an impressive performance to be named among the best. Ashraf Addicoat booted three goals in another promising display.

BIG GUNS FIRE IN SFLW CLASH

Two of Kingborough’s big names were at the forefront of their win over Clarence in the top of the ladder SFLW division one clash. Ex-AFLW player Perri King was named best afield for the Tigers. It was King’s fifth mention in the best this season. Meanwhile, Josephine Rose returned from Tassie Devils duties to boot three goals. Rose finished with four when she last played. Olivia Johnson was another strong performer.

CLAREMONT LAYS DOWN A MARKER

Claremont and New Norfolk were both undefeated heading into Saturday, only for the former to run out 48-point winners. Katie Stanford was best afield for her side to continue a stunning SFLW division two season while Ashton Saunders had her best game in front of goal, with three, since moving clubs in the off-season.
