Ovens and Murray League forward to train at Punt Road, vie with Quinton Narkle for call-up
An athletic 195cm goalkicker will join Quinton Narkle in training at AFL club Richmond during coming weeks. DANIEL CHERNY reports on who the Tigers are looking at to fill the final spot on their list.
Richmond will trial a mature-age forward out of the Ovens and Murray League to fill the final spot on the club’s 2023 list.
Kaelan Bradtke, an athletic 195cm goalkicker from Corowa-Rutherglen, will train with the Tigers in coming weeks in a bid to gain a permanent spot at Punt Road via the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
Bradtke is capable of playing at either end of the ground and had a brief taste of VFL with Sydney late in the season, playing two games and kicking a goal against North Melbourne in round 20.
The 21-year-old is set to compete with delisted Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle, who has also been invited to train with the Tigers.
Narkle, 25 next week, played 41 games for the Cats but was starved of opportunities in a strong line-up.
Richmond has been an enthusiastic user of the SSP system since its inception, recruiting Sydney Stack and Rhyan Mansell via the mechanism.
Having traded away their early picks, the Tigers recruited West Australian pair Kaleb Smith and Steely Green late in the national draft before taking Seth Campbell and Tylar Young in Wednesday’s rookie draft.
