Jackies look to life after Doyle by signing import
The JackJumpers have signed their only import for next season as they look to start life without departed star Milton Doyle. Hear from the new signing.
The JackJumpers hope new import Bryce Hamilton can be the answer to moving on without departed star Milton Doyle after signing the American for next season.
A recommendation from two NBL rivals helped put the athletic guard down the path to becoming a JackJumper, with the club finalising their roster by signing the American.
The 24-year-old confidently declared he’s “a person who can do it all” in an interview released by the club on Thursday.
The two-way guard has spent the past two seasons in Greece and Germany, where he averaged 17.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game with Rostock Seawolves.
Hamilton also spent two seasons with G-League outfit South Bay Lakers, where he averaged over 16 points per game.
Hamilton is the only import on Tasmania’s 13-man roster after Milton Doyle signed with Melbourne United, while fellow guard Jordon Crawford also isn’t returning.
Asked how the process unfolded to join the Jackies, Hamilton said: “I know a couple of guys from Australia, I know (Melbourne United’s) Jack White and (Cairns player) Jonah Antonio, and they told me about Tasmania was interested in me and also my agent. It sounded like a really good situation just talking to the coach Scott Roth. They have a plan for me, and it felt like the right situation for me to go into.
“(I’m) definitely a person who can do it all. I like to score and defend a lot of positions and score at all three levels.
“I can playmake for myself and my teammates, and always bring great energy.
“I used to play football growing up so it’s a big thing to bring physicality to the basketball side of things.”
The left-hander, set to arrive in Tasmania in early August, said he is keen to force his way back into the NBA system.
“The long term plan is to get back into the NBA. It’s a process and I’m just going to work hard to get back there,” he said.
“I’m excited, I just love basketball and I can’t wait to go to Tasmania and Defend the Island.
“I know it’s definitely one of the best leagues in the world. I’m ready to go there and compete and show I’m able to play in that league.”
