Jarred Bairstow to suit up for Hobart Chargers in NBL1 South
Despite already signing two Tasmania JackJumpers star players for the NBL1 South season, the Hobart Chargers wouldn’t rule out adding a third.
Another Tasmania JackJumpers star has signed with the Hobart Chargers for the upcoming NBL1 South season with the club not ruling out adding a third Jackie to its squad.
After announcing that Sam McDaniel would return to the Charges during the Jackies off-season, the club revealed that teammate Jarred Bairstow would also return this year.
“The second piece of the puzzle is signed with ‘JB’ and it’s a really important one,” Chargers coach Anthony Stewart said.
“With so many young Tasmanians playing this year it’s important we have Sam and Jarred here to really mentor these young boys.”
“I love coaching Jarred. He is probably one of my favourites that I’ve ever coached. He goes out there, plays hard and good things happen. It was a no-brainer to get him back.”
With two JackJumpers now putting pen to paper ahead of the April 1 tip-off, Stewart wouldn’t rule out the possibility of JackJumpers captain Clint Steindl joining the club following the news that wife Kayla had signed onto play for the Chargers women’s side in 2023.
“We aren’t ruling anything out,” Stewart said when asked.
“Would I have him? I would in a heartbeat but that’s not my decision.”
With Bairstow undergoing post-season ankle surgery, Stewart said they would take a cautious approach to his return back to the floor.
“We want to make sure he does the right rehab. We are as invested in him as we are the club so he has to be comfortable and the JackJumpers medical staff has to be comfortable so we will nurture him back,” he said.
“We don’t start for another month and then we have a bye so hopefully he is back mid-April or early May.”
The Chargers kick off their season against rivals the North West Thunder in Ulverstone.
