The only national team based in Cairns will make history when the Taipans become the latest NBL team to get a taste of NBA action.
The Taipans will take on 2019 NBA Champions Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, on Sunday, October 15 (local time), in one of the biggest challenges in the Far North club’s 25-year history.
The news was included in the Raptors’ release of their pre-season schedule, with their other three games against NBA opposition.
It’s understood Cairns are set to play at least one other game while in North America.
The timing isn’t ideal as far as the Taipans’ preparation for the NBL campaign goes, with the Snakes to play three regular season games before they travel overseas.
Cairns will face the Bullets in Brisbane on October 7 before they board a plane bound for North America.
They are scheduled to face the Raptors on October 15 plus potentially one other opponent before returning to Australia via Illawarra, with a road game against the Hawks scheduled for October 26.
