Harjas Singh included in NSW Second XI squad after viral Premier Cricket triple century
Fresh off blasting 35 sixes and breaking several grade cricket records in New South Wales, Harjas Singh is set to take a major step in his cricket career.
Six-hitting phenomenon Harjas Singh’s stunning triple century on the weekend is set to earn him an immediate call-up for NSW.
It’s understood the 20-year-old left-hand destroyer who announced himself to the Australian cricketing public on Saturday with his record-breaking 314 off 141 balls is expected to be named in the NSW Second XI squad for a match next week.
The Western Suburbs talent made headlines all around the cricketing world with his feats in a Sydney Premier League 50-over match and now he is set to take the next big step in his career.
Singh told this masthead after his whirlwind knock which featured 35 sixes, that his primary goal for this summer was to earn a NSW Second XI call-up and attract interest from a Big Bash club – and now one of those objectives is already poised to be ticked off the list.
Pressure will be on NSW’s selectors to promote him for a top class 50-over debut if his rich form continues.
The Sydney Thunder utilised Singh in a T10 competition earlier this year and it would be surprising if the Australian under-19s young gun wasn’t on the radar for BBL teams preparing to finalise their extended squads for the summer.
“Coming into this year I was sort of hoping to get some sort of involvement with a BBL side, and trying to play some second XI cricket (for NSW) and I’ll sort of try to take it step-by-step,” Harjas said.
“But of course cricket is such a funny game, I could go out next week and get a duck so who knows.”
