Tasmania has locked in a strong squad for the upcoming domestic cricket season with one player choosing to stay despite interest elsewhere.

While he may have received interest elsewhere, re-signed Tasmanian Tigers batter-keeper Jake Doran says it was an easy decision to stay put.

The 27 year-old has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the announcement of his fresh contract coming as part of the reveal of the Tigers full squad for next season.

“I think for me it was a pretty easy one in the end (to stay),” Doran said.

“Tasmania gave me an opportunity when I was 18 so I didn’t really want to leave the state and what we are working on here is pretty special. I think in the next couple of years we are hopefully holding a few trophies.

“In the end, nothing eventuated to anything serious (with other states) so it was just a conversation with Tasmania about what my next couple of year’s looks like.”

Doran said identifying a clear role for him was key in making the call to re-sign with the feedback given that the organisation wanted him to remain the man behind the stumps while also continuing to bat inside the top five.

“I don’t think anything is ever guaranteed from a game point of view, you still need to perform, but from a role perspective it’s pretty clear (what mine is),” he said.

Doran joins Bradley Hope (three years), Billy Stanlake (two), Charlie Wakim (two) and Aiden O’Connor (two – rookie deal) as recent re-signings while Tim Ward, Beau Webster and Mac Wright have all extended their contracts on multi-year deals.

Three fresh faces will join the Tigers next season with Queensland duo Matthew Kuhnemann and Will Prestwidge coming in alongside rookie Rafael Macmillian while Kieran Elliot has also received his first state contract after playing locally with Clarence.

Veteran duo Sam Rainbird and Matthew Wade’s retirements were already known but spinner Paddy Dooley’s time as a Tiger is over with the Hobart Hurricanes breakout star not offered a new deal after just one season.
