Some are returning bigger and better, while there’s a sea of new cricketers waiting to make their own mark in the Green Shield. Stay up to date with the latest under-16 squads for 2023-24.
The state’s top under-16 cricketers have ramped up preparations ahead of next month’s AW Green Shield.
Run by NSW Premier Cricket and featuring teams from all 20 Sydney clubs, the six-week long tournament has long been regarded as the best junior club competition in the world.
Once again, this masthead will preview every team in early December and cover every match including the grand final in late January.
Until then, keep up to date with the latest squads from clubs as they come to hand.
LATEST GREEN SHIELD SQUADS
As the majority of last season’s title winning combination continue to rise up the ranks, Parramatta’s quest for consecutive tiles will largely depend on a new generation.
One player returning is the versatile Blake Noorbergen. In addition to packing serious firepower with the bat, the right-hander is a capable gloveman and handy bowler. Steps up as skipper this season, and recently showed his growing maturity with a composed 41 in third-grade at Sutherland.
Hawkesbury were worthy grand finalists in 2022-23, and with crafty leg-spinner Aarush Soni still on the books the Hawks should remain a force. Last summer the NSW pathways rep and Waverley College student’s hard work was rewarded with a first grade debut.
Mosman were frontrunners for the majority of last season, and while several of the squads leading run scorers have moved on, Alex Ferretti returns bigger and better.
A reliable seamer, Ferretti bagged a season best 5-17 in Green Shield last summer and has already proven his worth this season with a 4-32 in fifth-grade.
Sajith Kundar averaged a handy 27.5 in Blacktown’s middle order last season. Now selected as captain, he can expect to lead the charge from higher up the order.
With an abundance of leg-spin talent across the board, Fairfield Liverpool’s Yash Deshmukh and Sydney’s Aditya Thakare are definitely ones to watch.
Deshmukh has already had a taste of second grade and picked up a couple of three-wicket hauls in thirds, while Thakare has continued to show great control in fourth grade.
