Young guns: 20 leading players from the VMCU rep-cricket carnival

A list of the outstanding performers at the annual junior cricket carnival contested by local associations. And all the premiership players named.

There were big runs and bags of wickets at the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union carnival that wrapped up with grand finals on Sunday.

Here are 20 of the leading performers.

BATTING

Alex Chandler, Ferntree Gully: 259 runs at 43.17 represented a fine carnival for Chandler, who has played Subbies first XI for Moorabbin this season.

Lilith Marie Ryan, All Girls: topped the aggregate in the Under 17 Mel Jones Shield with 313 at 78.2, including a brilliant unbeaten 103 against Diamond Valley. Also scored 55no off 53 in the grand final against ECA.

Luke Pearse, Ringwood District: topped the aggregate in the Under 16 MacKay Cup with 300 at 50, and saved his best innings for the grand final against Ferntree Gully: a brutal 75 off 83 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Luke hails from Seville Burras Cricket Club.

Jethro Cox, South East: the 15-year-old peeled off a defiant maiden century in the grand final of the Under 16 Beitzel Shield, his unbeaten 100 engineering a rousing run-chase victory for the SECA over Ringwood...and gave him 257 runs for the carnival, at 42.8.

Thomas Croaker, Ringwood District: scored three half-centuries on his way to 206 runs, at 68.6, to top the aggregate in the Under 14 Allen Shield.

Mia Head, MPCA: her outstanding Under 14 Savage Shield campaign included 213 runs at 53.2, and five scores of 27 or more. the talented Red Hill junior also captured 12 wickets at 3.8 to be named player of the tournament.

Ranen Gandhi, Dandenong District: the opener scored three half-tons, with a top of score of 63 not out, and an impressive aggregate of 287 runs, at 71.7 in Under 14 Nolan Cup.

Aiden Boby, Ferntree Gully: the opening batter topped the run chart in the Under 12 Mitchell Shield, crafting 352 runs at 70.4, with with three half-centuries. Also chipped in with 14 wickets, at 7.1.

Neil Thapar, Western Region: hit three unbeaten half-centuries in a dominant Under 12 Browne Plate carnival in that yielded 256 runs, at 64.

Falak Syeda, All Girls: opened the batting in the Under 12 Fatone Shield and was dismissed only once, hitting 265 runs at 265, with a highest score of 62no against Ringwood District. Also took 10 wickets at 3.8.

BOWLING

Zach Seal, Ferntree Gully: carried the attack for his team in the Under 18 Arnold Shield, claiming 17 wickets at 7.8. Took two four-wicket hauls and took at least one wicket in all seven games.

Victoria Gonsalves, Eastern: finished the Under 17 Jones Shield carnival with a stunning average of 4.8 after taking 15 wickets, including hauls of 4-7 and 4-11. The exciting talent has played with Melbourne’s thirds this season.

Josh Bridges, South East: headed the wicket count with 16 at 8.5 in the Under 14 MacKay Shield, including multiple wickets in six games.

Oliver Lacey, Inner South East: set himself up for a good series by jagging 7-19 off 8 overs ECA in Round 1, and ended up with 17 wickets at 5.1.

Brad Moore, Eastern: the emerging all-rounder was part of a strong attack and had 17 wickets at 10.4, with a best of 4-5 off 4.5 overs against Ringwood District in Round 5.

Saviru Jayakody Serasingha, Dandenong District: had an outstanding Under 14 Nolan Cup, taking 19 wickets at 8.7, including 5-15 off 7.4 against Western region in Round 2.

FIELDING

Thomas Handasyde, Ringwood District: was red-hot behind the stumps with eight catches and seven stumpings — and also made 65no in his side’s grand final victory in the Under 16 MacKay Cup.

Lily Murrihy, Eastern: did a great job as captain, steering her side into a grand final of the Under 17 Jones Shield. Set the standard in the field with nine catches and a stumping.

Clarence Spurr, Eastern: started the Under 14 Allen Shield with a bang, taking three catches against DDCA in Round 1 and then four catches and a stumping in Round 2 against Inner South East.

Lincoln Agnew, Ringwood District: snaffled 11 catches in six matches in an impressive Under 12 Mitchell Shield campaign.
