Ange Postecoglou’s Forest forced to settle for Europa League draw in Spain
Ange Postecoglou’s quest for a first Nottingham Forest victory continues after his side conceded a late goal to be held to a draw in the UEFA Europa League.
Ange Postecoglou insists “wins will come” under his tenure at Nottingham Forest as his search for a maiden victory with his new club continues following a 2-2 draw with Spanish outfit Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League.
Former Socceroos coach Postecoglou has now gone four games without a win across three competitions since taking charge at Forest earlier this month following the sacking of the club’s previous manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.
“I’ve just got to make sure (the players) keep their heads up because there’s plenty to be positive about, and the wins will come if we keep playing our football like that,” Postecoglou told TNT Sports after Forest had to settle for an away point following a late equaliser from Betis’ Brazilian winger Antony in Seville on Thursday morning (AEST).
“I’m just disappointed the players and supporters don’t get the rewards for our efforts.”
Forest trailed after 15 minutes through a powerful strike from Betis’ Congo international forward Cedric Bakambu.
However, within eight minutes Forest was ahead through a brace from Brazilian marksman Igor Jesus.
Postecoglou’s men should have further extended their lead soon after, but midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi failed to tap home a corner, with the ball hitting the post.
“I thought our football was outstanding at times in the first half. The only thing I could fault was we didn’t put the game to bed,” Postecoglou said.
“We should have really finished them off in the first half.
“We could have got our third goal, but that’s the nature of football. When it’s a one-goal difference, that can always hurt you and unfortunately that’s what happened to us.”
Forest returns to English Premier League duty on Sunday morning (AEST) with a home game against Sunderland.
