GOSFORD INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1: SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600m)
GOLD CUP (4) was bred at Waikato Stud which is a good head start in life, so is the fact that she is by Super Seth and is in-bred to Zabeel. Her third dam, Flying Floozie, was twice NZ Broodmare of the Year. All of that means the best is yet to come from this Kris Lees-trained 3YO who had “next time” written all over on debut. PIERRO LAD (1) has three placings from four starts including one at Canterbury. Very strong late!
BET: GOLD CUP to win, Keagan Latham to win the TAB Jockeys Challenge.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600m)
PRO VELOCITY (4) is a Proisir daughter of a High Chaparral mare which explains why she has improved with each and every day. So much so that she broke her maiden (easily!) first-up at Hawkesbury over 1400m. 1600m even better now. RUSSIAN ESCAPE (6) has really hit his straps since Colt Prosser bought the horse from Victoria. Super impressive at Kempsey last start. Don’t sell him short.
BET: PRO VELOCITY to win.
RACE 3: CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m)
JUAN PABLO (2), a cleverly named son of a mare called Montoya’s Secret (think F1) has pole position here on Saturday which is almost always an advantage around this circuit, it should at least him in a prominent spot throughout and his form is good enough to take the checkered flag. KING PEDRO (3), he ran sixth in Willydoit’s NZ Derby, so ought to find a provincial 68 well within his reach.
BET: JUAN PABLO to win, exacta 2/3.
RACE 4: PROVINCIAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1600m)
OAKFIELD SATURN (2) has also accepted for the Midway at Kembla. In his absence, I feel it could be a battle of the stablemates, OH DEER (8) and ALL HUNKY DORY (1). Both of the Adam Duggan-trained locals are in form and thoroughly reliable. One one hand, All Hunky Dory gets the nod because he is an on-pacer/leader drawn perfectly but then again, Oh Deer does not work from her draw and cops 6kg off her stable buddy.
BET: OAKFIELD SATURN to win or if scratched quinella 1/8.
RACE 5: MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
DIACON (6) trialled exceedingly well prior to her 1000m maiden debut here at Gosford on November 6 hence why she SPed at $2.90. She ran fourth of the eight but was only beaten a length. If you backed her, unhappy, but if you owned/trainer her – most encouraged with the first run. There is a possible scenario where CURADO (1) jumps, leads and wins. He has won all three trials, he beat Big Tiger in one of them.
BET: DIACON to win, exacta 6/1, quinella 1/2.
RACE 6: MIDWAY MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)
YESNOVA (4) makes genuine each-way appeal at the $11 quote or thereabouts. She is rather well bred being by the Everest winner and Randwick 1200m course record holder Yes Yes Yes out of a Fastnet Rock mare. The trials were bang on what you want to see from a horse about to race. Lots to like about TENNESSEE DOLLY’s (13) debut behind a potential stakes-horse in the making. GONG GIRL (10) has claims, third-up, box one.
BET: YESNOVA each-way, quinella 4/13, Daily Double 1st leg 4, 2nd leg 6.
RACE 7: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m)
SUNDAY TYCOON (5) has a record of 15 starts for two wins, three seconds and a third but his Gosford record is three starts for a win and a second and that second was as recently as November 6 when runner-up to Crepe Myrtle who won in town this week. COSY CORNER (6) has a fabulous record of four starts (1-1-1) at this same track and distance and is stepping back in class after contesting the Weeping Woman BM78 at Rosehill 14 days ago.
BET: SUNDAY TYCOON to win, trifecta 5 (stand out), 1,6,9 (boxed).
RACE 8: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1000m)
PRINCESS CRUIZER (6), as it happens, is the very last foal to be born sired by Choisir. How fitting that Paul Perry bought her at the 2022 HTBA Yearling Sale in 2022. Just one more thing on her pedigree, her grandam is the Golden Slipper winner Calaway Gal. It doesn’t take a genius to know that Princess Cruizer has never been closer to winning. CALIDO MAGIC (4) has good Highway form and is one for one at the Gosford 1000m. ORYX (3) and LULL (10) will have their share of admirers.
BET: PRINCESS CRUIZER to win.
