Damian Lane suspension leaves trainer Matt Laurie chasing new jockey for Treasurethe Moment in 2025 Feehan Stakes
Trainer Matt Laurie faces a critical decision to find a replacement rider for star mare Treasurethe Moment after regular jockey Damian Lane's 15-meeting suspension.
Rising star Treasurethe Moment is going to need a replacement jockey for the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at The Valley with regular pilot Damian Lane suspended for a whip indiscretion.
Lane copped a 15-meeting penalty at Flemington for using the persuader 10 times – five more than permitted – on eventual Makybe Diva Stakes runner-up Aeliana prior to the last 100m.
Lane is ineligible to ride from September 21 to October 3, ruling him out of the Valley’s AFL Grand Final Even blockbuster under lights, including the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Feehan Stakes.

Four-time Group 1-winner Treasurethe Moment, trained by Matt Laurie, is set to contest the Feehan Stakes after a minor bout of colic derailed initial Makybe Diva Stakes ambitions last Saturday.
Laurie confirmed the Group 1 Memsie Stakes winner had recovered fully from the scary setback.
“She had a trot and canter (Friday) and (Saturday) … she seems really bright,” Laurie said.
“The Feehan is a really nice race regardless, and it will give us a bit of an insight on how she handles that track.”

Treasurethe Moment is being aimed toward the Group 1 WS Cox Plate (2040) at The Valley on October 25.
Laurie was thankful for the rapid veterinary intervention that helped Treasurethe Moment overcome her brush with colic.
“There’s varying types of colic, we had one on the lower scale but certainly enough to knock her around, you don’t want it to happen to any horse, let alone a horse like Treasurethe Moment,” Laurie said.
“It’s really the only option for her (Feehan Stakes), I think we can get there.
“She really didn’t lose too much work, didn’t lose really anything and she’s so clean-winded I think she’ll handle it fine.”

Laurie said Treasurethe Moment was agitated and uncomfortable with the colic symptoms.
“She had a build-up of gas in her intestine, which was stuck, it was very uncomfortable and inflamed her large intestine and probably slightly shifted her small intestine forward,” Laurie said.
“It was very uncomfortable and if left unattended those things can be lethal, thankfully it came good pretty quickly with some good assistance from the veterinary clinic.”
Laurie has Group 1 colt Vinrock aimed at the Golden Rose in Sydney in two weeks after a welcome second-up victory at Flemington last Saturday in the Listed Exford Plate.

“We’ll let the dust settle (on decisions),” Laurie said.
“If you go back through the Golden Rose (past) … they’re full of horses standing at stud, obviously you want to win but it’s a high class field and he should be a part of it.
“He’s a pretty tough horse, he doesn’t miss an oat … he could handle it, if wanted to do it.”
Vinrock won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes in Sydney last campaign.
Vinrock is $11 and $8 in respective all-in Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas markets.
