Ryan Maloney’s quest to ride lightweight Sunshine In Paris in The Galaxy ends up in hospital
The lightweight ride on Sunshine In Paris proved irresistible for premier Brisbane jockey Ryan Maloney, however it has landed him in hospital on Saturday morning.
Ryan Maloney’s quest to shed the kilos and ride Sunshine In Paris at 54kg at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday has ended up in hospital.
The champion Brisbane hoop committed to riding the mare, which he partnered to Group 1 glory last year’s Surround Stakes, however, was forced to forfeit the ride when he admitted himself to hospital early on Saturday morning.

Queensland Jockeys’ Association boss Glen Prentice said Maloney, who usually rides around 56kg, was given two litres of fluid and had his heart rate monitored in hospital before being discharged at 9am on Saturday.
Maloney was ultimately replaced by Jason Collett.
After travelling to Sydney to trial Sunshine In Paris earlier this month, Maloney said the proposition of riding her in The Galaxy became irresistible when she received a large ratings bump to give her 53.5kgs.
Earlier this week, Maloney told Racenet he had cut back his portion sizes when it comes to food and cut sugar out of his diet in an attempt to make the weight.
Sunshine In Paris has proven to be a labour of love for Maloney since winning the Group 1 Surround Stakes a year ago, after she was forced to miss out on The Everest when suffering an injury setback in the lead up to the showpiece event.
