Broc Feeney disappointed after finishing fifth in Bathurst 1000 top-10 shootout
Bathurst favourite Broc Feeney has left himself with an uphill battle to secure Bathurst glory after producing a messy display in Saturday’s top-10 shootout.
Championship leader and Triple Eight racing’s Broc Feeney is confident he and Jamie Whincup can still end up on the top step of the Bathurst 1000 podium despite a disappointing top-10 shootout lap.
Chasing his 14th pole for the season the in-form qualifier delivered a messy lap at times to finish fifth in the shootout.
Feeney will have to wait another year to claim a historic first pole position at the mountain after multiple mistakes cost him dearly.

The Triple Eight driver went wide coming out of turn one, which cost him time, before trying to recover it at the top of the mountain in the second sector.
But launching into Skyline, Feeney almost lost control in The Esses, before reclaiming control of the car before Forrest’s Elbow.
It cost him more time, and he was unable to recover, falling more than five tenths short of pole, which was taken out by Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki.
It was still good enough to be the leading Chevrolet Camaro but he fell from second, after qualifying, to the third row of the grid.
“That shootout, it wasn’t my best lap,” Feeney said.
“That’s it, to be honest I didn’t do my best lap there.
“I’m pretty disappointed with that.
“We’re in the mix, a long way to go tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to it.”
In a disappointing session for Camaro, it filled five of the last six spots in the top-10 as Ford claimed the top-four spots on the grid.

Despite the Blue Oval’s domination in the shootout, Feeney was confident the team would rebound.
Even with the threat of rain on Sunday, which is expected to fall during the race.
“The race looks like it’s going to rain at some point, so we’re still working on scenarios and final touches on the race car,” Feeney said.
“We’ve worked on it a lot this week, and I just feel like we’ve been missing a little bit of something, somewhere.
“We’ve got a couple of changes we’ll try, we’re pretty confident in that process and it should help us find what we’re looking for and looking to take to track come Sunday.”
“(The) goal is still to be top step of the podium.
“We’re in it, we’re in a position to do it, we’ll put our best race together on Sunday.”
