Emerging south coast rugby league superstar Jarrah Treweek receives dual Player of the Year awards
He’s the 6’4’ wrecking ball second rower with the ball skills of a halfback. Young gun Jarrah Treweek has been rewarded for a stellar 2023 campaign with two awards.
Emerging rugby league superstar Jarrah Treweek has capped off a stellar 2023 season with two personal awards.
The south coast gun was awarded the Laurie Daley Cup Most Valuable Player and the Illawarra South Coast Dragons Player of the Year awards.
Treweek was an instrumental member of the Dragons side that took out the Laurie Daley Cup for the second year in a row, culminating in a grand final hat-trick and Player of the Match performance from the second row.
When asked what exactly Treweek brought to the side in 2023, coach Peter Hooper admitted it was “just about everything”.
“It’s his work ethic that separates him from most,” Hooper said.
“It’s the little things he does that makes him such a special athlete, always going above and beyond.
“I would love to coach him again.”
Treweek ended his 2023 Laurie Daley Cup campaign with seven tries from as many appearances, while also being largely influential in the creation of tries for his teammates.
Standing somewhere north of 6’4’, Treweek possesses some incredible on-the-ball skills for such a big man.
“He’s such a special talent because he grew up playing in the halves,” Hooper said.
“It’s the way he can assess a situation, he has such a good footy IQ. You look at his three tries in the grand final, they all came from different scenarios.
“I actually asked him if he ever thought about a career in AFL – his aerial skills and ability to catch a ball above his head are terrific and he can kick a footy longer than just about everyone on the team.”
After securing gold in the Laurie Daley Cup, Treweek headed back down the south coast to the Milton Ulladulla Bulldogs in Group 7 and was a big contributor to the squad that improved from ninth place in 2022 to fifth place in 2023.
He was promoted to the first grade squad from the U18s early in the season and has been a mainstay in the starting 13 every week since.
“He showed in the U18s that he can dictate a game by himself,” Bulldogs coach Andy Lynch said.
“Moving to first grade though has allowed him to concentrate on his own job from the back row and he’s a better player for it.
He has picked up four tries and been highly damaging down the right flank for the high-scoring Bulldogs side.

“He’s unbelievable, his ability is way above his years,” Lynch said.
“His physicality is great and will only get better, his game management is superb, he could definitely play in the halves if we needed him to.”
Treweek will no doubt be a name to keep an eye on in the junior rep system next season and beyond, with an NRL dream not out of the realm of possibility in years to come.
