Gymea are the kings of Cronulla after a 16-10 win over Bosco in the A-grade grand final at Forshaw Oval.
Looking to end an A-grade title drought stretching back to 1999, Bosco had a dream start with a try inside the opening five minutes.
Jye Bowen turned a rampaging Nathan Mateer under to crash his way over and give them a hot beginning.
The majority of the first half was a real struggle for ascendancy from both teams as they looked to gain the upper hand.
It wasn’t until the shadows of halftime that Gymea turned the tables, with Ryan Peake picked up a loose ball and got them on the attack.
On the very next play they quickly shifted to the right-hand wing, where a flying Lawson Cotter was able to beat two defenders on his way to the line.
Gymea dominated possession early in the second half and eventually the pressure told with Nathan Wynn finding Jordan Bradley to put them ahead 10-6.
The Gorillas continued to press and this time it was Nathan Wynn with a lovely cutout that hit Brooklyn Berry on the chest to go over untouched, stretching the lead to 10 with 14 to play.
With time winding down, Bosco had one last chance to keep the game alive, and Blake Wardrobe did that with a double-pump at the line to put Logan Clinch over.
That was as close as they could get as the Gorillas closed out the victory.
OTHER GRADES
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Bosco, with the Bulldogs claiming the Emerging Cup 12-4 over Engadine.
Archie Rose worked the short-side to put Tyrone Mills over in the corner to help Bosco strike first, before Cooper Smith was able to respond for Engadine.
Their big front rower Kalan Ngaika went midway through the half to make it 10-4, before Dylan O’Riordan added a penalty goal to give them a healthy buffer at the break.
That would be the last score of the contest as the Dragons failed to reel in the lead.
The premier women’s division was taken out by Corrimal, who put together an impressive display to take down Campbelltown Collegians 26-14.
Sian Rowcliff was able to get across for a double in the win.
In the U18s Gold grand final, Aquinas proved too strong for Como Jannali to the tune of 20-4.
The Colts had everyone shocked inside five minutes, regathering their own goal-line dropout to run the length of the field to open the scoring through Johnathan Mansour.
It was Mansour again that helped them extend the margin with a perfect grubber for Jaylan Herron to touch down.
A lovely ball from Luca Pirrello was able to put Conor Murphy over to make it 10-4 at the break.
Isaac Dawson and Jake Bender helped the Colts close out the contest in the second half.
