Julia Robinson’s try of the year contender puts exclamation mark on Jillaroo’s 60-0 win over Samoa
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a flying Jillaroo! Julia Robinson has scored one of the tries of the year in Australia’s demolition job over Samoa. WATCH the incredible four-pointer.
With a catch worthy of the Gabba, Jillaroos winger Julia Robinson etched another highlight into the history books in Sunday’s 60-0 win over Samoa at Suncorp Stadium.
The premiership-winning winger pulled off a spectacular grab off a pinpoint kick from halfback Jesse Southwell for her second try, giving Brisbane fans a glimpse into a deadly combination that could light up the NRLW next season.
Robinson’s athleticism made the moment, stretching out like Superwoman to catch and ground Southwell’s kick late in the second half as the Jillaroos ran wild over their opponents. Again.
“We’ll clip that up as an inspiration clip as well and a picture of that because she deserves to celebrate that, it’s amazing,” Jillaroos coach Jess Skinner said of Robinson’s try.
Up 26-0 at halftime, the Jillaroos put on the afterburners to polish off Samoa and open their Pacific Championships account ahead of next week’s clash with New Zealand.
It was their first game since smashing England 90-4 in Las Vegas in March, and the 19th win from their last 20 games for the Australian juggernauts.
Robinson, Tamika Upton and Jess Sergis all scored doubles, while Kezie Apps, Olivia Kernick, Yasmin Clydsdale, Quincy Dodd and Jakiya Whitfeld all got on the board in a huge win.
SOUTHWELL STARS ON DEBUT
Brisbane should be favourites for back-to-back NRLW premierships in 2026 after signing Southwell from Newcastle on a two-year deal.
The 20-year-old starred in her Jillaroos debut on Sunday, setting her future Broncos teammate Robinson up for a supreme try from her boot as well as throwing the last past for two more in a big afternoon.
She finished with three try-assists, a line-break and eight goals in her international debut, while her partnership with Ali Brigginshaw in the halves gave fans a taste of what to expect next season.
SAMOA SMASHED
The result is a huge come down for Fetu Samoa who pushed New Zealand last week in a 22-20 loss for an epic Pacific Championships opener.
However, they were tough in the face of a champion side.
Forwards Annetta-Claudia Nu’uausala and Shalom Sauaso were physical up front early, but Samoa finished with just 38 per cent of possession and made them ripe for the picking.
INTERNATIONAL BLOWOUTS
The Jillaroos are far and away the best international women’s team on the planet.
In the lead up, TAB weren’t offering odds for a Jillaroos win, and the line was 41.5pts.

The massive 60-point win is expected to further ignite debate about strengthening the women’s international game by relaxing eligibility laws for State of Origin by removing the tiered system for other nations.
New Zealand is their closest rival, and the only side to beat Australia across their past 20 games.
The two face off on Sunday at Eden Park in Auckland ahead of the Pacific Championships final in a fortnight.
