SuperCoach EPL: Players not to pick in Fantasy Premier League
SuperCoach is as much about who you leave out as who you pick. And thousands of SuperCoach EPL players are in danger of making big blunders. See our list of players to avoid here.
Transfer chaos, loan signings, role changes and injuries.
It takes a serious SuperCoach to keep up with all the talking points in the Premier League.
We’ve done the hard work for you providing updates on 15 key names and why they SHOULDN’T be in your SuperCoach team.
Whether it be players priced over the odds, those still on the sidelines or others with their futures up in the air with the transfer window still open, these are the players in the SuperCoach EPL no-go zone.
Caoimhin Kelleher (Brentford) £8,020,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 2.9%
Can you really justify paying top dollar for Kelleher when so many keepers – with more reliable defences in front of them – are available for cheaper? Mark Flekken kept seven clean sheets as Brentford’s No. 1 last season, while Alisson and Kelleher combined for 14 across the season at Liverpool. No one knows exactly what to expect from the Bees under Keith Andrews but the likelihood is Kelleher will be a very busy man and drop in price.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle United) £11,610,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 5.6%
The latest reports from the UK suggest Isak won’t play for Newcastle again and is desperate to complete a move to Liverpool. The transfer saga has dragged on until the first week of the season, so Isak won’t be playing for either club when their seasons start. Put him on your list as a premium trade target when his future is settled rather than paying more than £11m when his future is far from being settled.
Kepa Arrizabalaga (Arsenal) £6,160,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 0.5%
Much-maligned during his time between the sticks at Chelsea, Kepa did a serviceable job for Bouremouth last season, conceding 39 goals in 31 appearances and keeping eight clean sheets. The issue is he’s since moved to Arsenal and isn’t going to score many points sitting on the bench while he deputises to David Raya.
Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United)£5,570,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 1%
Hard to commit to Garnacho when his future at Old Trafford is so uncertain. If he stays at United, he’s going to be a fair way down the pecking order after the signings of Matheas Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. He’s been linked with a few clubs including Aston Villa and Napoli. Not worth picking up until his future is decided.
Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)£5,310,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 0.3%
Another fringe United player who looks certain to move on. Chelsea opted against signing Sancho permanently after he spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge, providing three goals and four assists in 31 appearances (19 starts). Most of the transfer speculation suggests he’ll be on the way to Italy.
Kyle Walker (Burnley) £4,200,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 23.2%
His price appeals, but how many games – and clean sheets – is a 35-year-old Walker going to manage? Hard to see him playing every match. The Clarets have a decent run to start the season with games against Tottenham, Sunderland and Manchester United. But after that it’s Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City when Burnley will be rank outsiders.
Rasmus Hojlund (Manchester United) £3,900,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 18.9%
Ruben Amorim preferred Matteas Cunha in Manchester United’s latest pre-season game against Everton, although Hojlund came on in the 72nd minute. United havsigned RB Leipzig hit man Benjamin Sesko, prompting rumours of a loan move for Hojlund.
Karl Darlow (Leeds United) £3,500,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 16.1%
Championship watchers will have noticed Daniel Farke turned to Darlow during the run home last season, helping Leeds seal the title and promotion. But Leeds hasn’t gone and paid about $30m AUD to sign Lucas Perri from Lyon and sit him on the pine. Darlow is again facing life as the No. 2 at Elland Road.
Luka Vuskovic (Tottenham) £3,500,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 6%
New Spurs manager Thomas Frank has reportedly made a host of young talents available for loan including highly-rated central defender Vuskovic. He’s unlikely to be at Tottenham come the end of the transfer window.
James Maddison (Tottenham) £9,600,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 3%
Maddinson was stretchered off after suffering an ACL injury in Spurs’ 1-1 pre-season draw against Newcastle. It’s a season-ending blow as he’s almost certainly going to miss most of the campaign. The silver lining for SuperCoaches might be greater opportunity in an advanced midfield role for Archie Gray (£3,900,000).
Conor Bradley (Liverpool) £3,900,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 2.9%
Likely to share minutes with new signing Jeremie Frimpong at rightback. Frimpong is favoured to be Slot’s first-choice in the role after arriving from German club Bayer Leverkusen. Role uncertainty should be a big turn off in SuperCoach EPL, especially if coaches are likely to rotate/manage players.
Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) £7,620,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 0.3%
New Spurs coach Thomas Frank has confirmed Kulusevski won’t be fit for the start of the new season as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. Make sure you check the team sheets or predicted line-ups before committing to a player in SuperCoach.
Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United) £8,020,000
Ownership (as of August 13): 0.4%
The defender has been sidelined since February with a knee injury and the suggestion is when he is fit he will be eased back into the first-team squad. Martinez might end up being a bargain defender in the middle of the season if his minutes are low when he returns. But he’s not a player you should start considering the uncertainty about his return date.
