SuperCoach EPL: Who to buy, hold and sell for week nine
It’s time to break the golden rule of SuperCoach and trade one of the biggest stars in the EPL. Plus this week’s best buys.
The No.1 rule of SuperCoach is to buy low and sell high.
Essentially, it means jumping on a player at their lowest price and then jumping off when their price peaks.
Selling Mohammed Salah this week goes completely against this rule after he dropped another £1,300,000 in value after scoring five SuperCoach points against Manchester United.
Regular readers of this column will know I have advocated holding Salah and riding out the form slump the Egyptian and Liverpool have been mired in. But after four straight games where he has scored under 10 points, the time has come to break SuperCoach’s golden rule.
Salah has the 54th best average among forwards (3.7) in the past three weeks and now costs less than half of his starting price.
With the African Cup of Nations two months away, now it’s the time to cut your losses.
BUY
El Junior Kroupi £5,340,000 FWD
The 19-year-old made the most of his first start of the Premier League season, scoring twice in the first 38 minutes of Bournemouth’s crazy 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace. He is projected to make £3,000,000 in the next two weeks.
Jean Phillippe-Mateta £10,040,000 FWD
Mateta is the hottest striker in the Premier League and netted all three of Crystal Palace’s goals against Bournemouth. He’s unlikely to have as much space against Arsenal this week but does take on Brentford and Wolves in the next four games.
Nick Woltemade £8,790,000 FWD
The big German is making a mockery of those who scoffed at the big price tag Newcastle paid to bring him to the Premier League. Woltemade has scored four goals in five matches for the Magpies and only dropped below 10 SuperCoach points once.
Reece James £8,580,000 DEF
Chelsea’s captain was in everything against Nottingham Forest, providing an assist and scoring on his way to a 33-point SuperCoach haul. James has the lowest Break Even ahead of week 9 at -16.
Senne Lammens £5,500,000 GKP
The young Belgian is winning rave reviews for the composure he has shown in his two outings as Manchester United’s new man between the sticks. He has scored eight points from saves in those matches and is about to soar in price due to a Break Even of -4.
Robert Sanchez £3,800,000 GKP
This is the perfect chance to jump on a premium goalkeeper at a rookie price – even it’s just for your bench. Although he can have his moments, Sanchez is a crazy price for a shot stopper who already has three scores above 10 to his name this season. With Sunderland, Tottenham, Wolves and Burnley in the next four weeks, he’ll be a premium price again in no time.
HOLD
Viktor Gyokeres £6,060,000 FWD
The Swedish target man has not found the back of the net since September 13. Despite this, Gyokeres is worth persisting with in SuperCoach. He’s still Arsenal’s main man in attack and the Gunners’ draw opens up after this week’s clash with Crystal Palace.
Enzo Fernandez £9,890,000 MID
Plenty of SuperCoaches were caught off guard when Chelsea’s midfield general missed the win over Nottingham Forest due to injury. While he’s a chance to miss against Sunderland this week, the expectation is Fernandez will return the following game to face Tottenham. Stay patient and hold him on your bench.
Marcos Senesi £10,950,000 DEF
Senesi is the sixth-ranked defender for total points in SuperCoach EPL. Don’t be scared off by his Break Even of 22. He’s going to lose some value, but that doesn’t matter when he should be a season hold anyway.
SELL
Mohammed Salah £7,740,000 FWD
For all the reasons listed above it’s time to take the hit and move him on. Your worst-case scenario would be burning a second trade and bringing him back if his form turns.
Ryan Gravenberch £9,810,000 MID
Had to be taken off due to an ankle issue against Manchester United. He has scored 17 points in the past three rounds since a season-high 24 in round 5 and is losing value fast.
Sean Longstaff £10,990,000 MID
The perfect example of a ‘sell high’ move. Longstaff was always unlikely to be a long-term play but those who paid less than $7m a few weeks ago have made a tidy profit. His Break Even is up to 16, a score Longstaff has reached once in eight weeks.
